What I ate Vegan in Prague, Czech Republic

Prague was the first stop on our recent European city trip. There was lots of vegan choice and these are the places we had chance to try.

Loving Hut

Loving Hut is a chain of vegan restaurants and although there are a few branches in the UK, I've never had chance to visit one before. We visited one in Prague in a shopping centre food court and there was the option to help yourself to a buffet of fully vegan options and then pay by weight or ask for just one dish and pay the set price. They had many tofu and soya dishes including asian inspired recipes, potatoes and cooked vegetables then a variety of salad options. I was spoilt for choice and decided to go for the buffet option.

I opted for a pretty beige plate and tried the noodles, soya peanut curry, potato cake and a spring roll filled with veg and soya pieces. The curry was really tasty but very spicy! The spring roll was really nice but the potato cake was my favourite, it was so soft and comforting.

My friend went for a beetroot salad and a bean salad with tempeh. The wrap had rice and chickpeas in.

Loving hut is great if you want to have lots of choice, they had some tasty looking desserts too. I can't remember how much it cost but it was definitely reasonable for the hearty meal we had.

Amorino

Amorino is an Italian gelateria chain but again, I hadn't ever been to one before. The appeal of getting a gelato shaped like a rose was too much and we succumbed!

All of their fruit flavours are vegan and the chocolate sorbet. There did not seem to be a limit on flavours even when purchasing the small size. I went for chocolate, raspberry, mango and passion fruit. They were all delicious and very refreshing.

Amorino give you the option to add a (non-vegan) macaron on the top of your ice cream too. The only thing I would say is that the flower shape (and the size) appear to differ dependent on which server you get.

Paprika

Paprika is a mediterranean restaurant with a large menu, mostly based on hummus! When we arrived we were given this taster plate while we decided. The falafel, hummus, tahini and garlic mushroom were all amazing.

We went for the vegan tapas sharing plate. We had salad, bread, chips and falafel and dips. However, the best bit was the various bowls lined with hummus and filled with different dishes.

One of the hummus based dishes was sabich- this is a traditional dish of fried aubergine and eggs however this one was veganised of course. It had a delicious garlicy tomato sauce and was served with tahini. Another of the dishes was hummus with garlic mushrooms and tahini. Finally, we had vegan shawarma- this was strips of soy spiced and served with hummus and tahini.

Every single dish was delicious and the falafel themselves were some of the best I have had. We were given a tahini, bbq and wasabi dip and I really enjoyed mixing all the different elements of the meal.

I would really recommend Paprika to anyone as they do mediterranean food very well and cater for vegans brilliantly.

Cafe Moment

Cafe moment is a really quirky and 100% vegan cafe, so many things on the menu looked great that I was spoilt for choice. They serve pancakes, chickpea omelettes, tofu scramble and a variety of sandwiches and toasties.

Myself and my friend both had the Seitan bagel with cheese which came with spicy soyannaise. The bagels came in a mismatch of different varieties but that added to the charm, along with the giant teacups!

The bagel was incredible. The seitan was smoky and cooked perfectly to be juicy and 'meaty'. it worked really well with the cheese and was just delicious.

Moment also had lots of yummy looking cakes and cheesecakes on offer. We couldn't resist sharing a mini peanut butter cheesecake.

Although the texture was more like cake than cheesecake, it was deliciously peanuty and the chocolate topping was bitter yet creamy and was a lovely end to our meal.

I would recommend moment and would have loved to have been able to try some of their other dishes.

Donut Shop

Donut shop offer 3 or 4 vegan donuts daily including some unique sounding flavours. We happened to visit on their first birthday and they were celebrating with live music and beer!

We picked up a 'vegan birthday' special and a chocolate pretzel to share.

The vegan birthday donut was a plain ring donut with blue water icing. It was filled with a chocolate, avocado and banana cream which was lovely.

The chocolate ring donut had lovely cocoay icing which was rich and delicious and paired really well with the saltiness of the pretzel. Both donuts were fresh and deliciously squidgy.

Forky's

Forky's is a 100% vegan bistro offering burgers, buddha bowls, nofish & chips, bagels and a not dog which we both had.

The not dog was a smoky soy sausage served with tomato, pickles, red onion, mustard and crispy onions and jalapeƱos. We had ours with mixed potato and sweet potato fries and coleslaw. We washed it all down with some vegan wine.

I liked the texture of the sausage although the not dog was a bit too mustardy for me. The coleslaw was really nice and creamy and I enjoyed the fries.

Forky's offer many options for lunch and dinner also have smoothies and dessert options including vegan ice cream.
